favorite October moments

I'm so looking forward to tomorrow… Halloween! We’ve got our pumpkins ready, our candy bowl restocked, and I might even put on a costume to greet the trick-or-treaters.

 

Here’s a snapshot of our front porch, lined up with bright orange pumpkins and little terracotta pots filled with my favorite orange and black pansies.

Can you spot or calico kitty, Jazzy? She loves the front porch, and you can always count on her to meow a cheerful hello to all that pass by.

 

Isn’t this arrangement so beautiful? The flowers a birthday gift to me from my sister-in-law, Deborah and her family.

 

These roses and ranunculus came carefully packed in a box and I styled them in this vintage copper bucket. I added a bit of greenery from the garden to fill things out. They’re the cheeriest color for late October, aren’t they?

 

Flowers, flowers and more flowers! They just make me soooo happy! This is another look I put together to showcase these lovely “Caroline” linens by Pacific & Rose.

 

This is the Caroline pattern in green. I just love how the bright orange mini pumpkins pop with all these vibrant colors.

 

And speaking of pumpkins, the mantel is done up in a more subdued tone, with feather butterflies added for a whimsical touch.

This soft color palette works perfectly with the mantel. Another arrangement of flowers I put together with my favorite pumpkin salad plates. The table linens are “Juniper” by August Table.

 

Here’s the Juniper napkin in another color creating a soft overlay for the pewter tray that’s serving up my favorite fall soup… Roasted Butternut Squash Soup, homemade of course! You can find the recipe here.

 

I’m currently setting the table for Halloween dinner and will share it all tomorrow. I’ve got an elegant but slightly spooky look I’m going for, and I think I can pull it off!

october tablescapes that work all year

Caroline Green

Here we are well into my favorite month, and I'm thrilled to show you a few new table-setting looks that are perfect for this time of the year, but also will transition nicely into the rest of the year.

Caroline Marigold

This new pattern by Pacific & Rose is called Caroline, and it comes in three colorways, green, marigold and blue.

 

Let’s start with Marigold. Featuring hints of yellow, marigold and green, this pattern is so versatile. I love how you can mix and match it with the Green Caroline, as well as other green Pacific & Rose patterns.

 

It’s lovely how the natural fibers of the round raffia placemats and the rustic bamboo flatware plays off the heritage-type print of this pattern.

Keep in mind that all these patterns and prints are hand-blocked in India by skilled artisans. The subtle variations created by this hand-blocking method is what produces the beauty of these table linens that are truly a feast for the eyes.  

 

Napkins, tablecloths, place mats and runners can all intermingle at your beck and call for creating a lovely tablescape this fall.

 

Caroline Blue

For a more casual look like this, I used a runner, placemats, and napkins all in the matching Blue Caroline pattern.

 

For overall coverage, we go with a luxurious tablecloth with coordinating napkins.

 

I love how the Blue Caroline pattern pairs with the bright colors of this floral arrangement by Bouquet Box. 

The fun part about these flowers is that all the flowers and supplies are sent to you with detailed instructions, and you put them together yourself.

 

And how cute are these aprons? They can be used in the garden, in the kitchen and even for crafting. The large front pockets are really useful too.

 

The Caroline pattern also makes its way into these adorable cosmetic bags. These are such a cute option as a thoughtful gift for a friend of family member.

I don’t know about you, but I have a “thing” about beautiful kitchen tea towels, and these are not only easy on the eyes, but they’re made from the perfect cotton fabric that’s really soft and absorbent.

 

A bright little pumpkin just adds the right dash of October charm to this pattern. Whether it’s the green pattern shown here, or the marigold or blue colorways, a fun seasonal hint really does look great with these gorgeous new napkins and table linens.

a festive October table

This festive October table has been in the works for about a week or so in my dining room. It was temporarily put on hold with all the excitement of our fall tea party at Pelican Courtyard, where I had to bring a carload of tableware to style. 

I actually used these same white porcelain chargers for this table that I used over at the tea party set-up. In fact, I had an amazing day of thrifting with my good friend Laura yesterday, and I found eight more of these charger plates, and they were marked half-off at only six bucks! 

Laura and I found a bounty of goodies, some of which I’ll share with you very soon. She spotted an amazing black and white hand-embroidered table runner for me that will be so perfect on my Halloween table at the end of the month! 

Paired with black and white transferware, I think it’ll make for an elegantly spooky table! In fact, I did pick up two more black and white transferware plates yesterday that have a slightly haunted motif on them. I can’t wait to show you! 

So now back to this table...         

I used a beachy blue and white throw to pick up the colors of all the Serena & Lily pillows in that room and the blue plates on the wall. I’m using the large chargers as dinner plates because they’re not that huge, and they hold a nice amount of food. 

The blue and white salad plates have a muted tone to them and look great with the tablecloth. I’ll try to get a better photo today, but I shot these in the early evening yesterday, and the sunlight was fleeting. 

The inspiration for this table was the contrast of these mini orange pumpkins with the blue. I don’t use a lot of orange during the fall anymore, but these little guys are so cheery!

Geometric patterned napkins in orange play off nicely with the pumpkins and add a much needed boost of color. The soup tureen will soon be filled with a delicious soup that I plan on making today. I'm not sure if it'll be butternut squash soup or maybe a creamy potato and broccoli soup. I'm up for trying something new.

   

By the way, that curly cue wicker chair at the end of the table was a recent estate sale find. It’s so darling and sort of like a tiny peacock chair!

I think just about everything on the table is vintage, except for the Serena & Lily placemats and the wreath from Home Goods. 

So, this is our table for the weekend, and we'll see if I can extend it into next week, but you know me... I'm always ready to work on a new tablescape! 😏
