pink roses in the dish room

💐"If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk through my garden forever." — Alfred Tennyson

The beautiful winter light that’s reflected by the sky brings out the very best of white decor and is just right to brighten up those slightly gloomy February days. And these roses make me soooo happy!

Here’s a little peek at the new area in the house that I'm calling the “dish room”. In December I decided to take an unused bedroom and use it as the main hub for a lot of my styling props, extra dishware and my collection of colored glassware.

Not only was the space ideal, but the morning light was also so perfect for those early morning photo shoots.

With that in mind, I set up a cottage farmhouse display wall with furniture that was already in the room.

A dark brown-black Ikea desk and two shelves were transformed with a few coats of white chalk paint. I papered the wall with a fun beadboard textured wallpaper which saved me quite a bit of money on using actual beadboard.

All I bought, besides the wallpaper, was a custom-made peg rack to fit right under the bottom shelf and a cute gingham curtain for the desk opening.

What I thrifted and how I styled it…

Lastly I found the most adorable vintage chandelier to finish off the room! The space is almost complete. This is now a great spot for my early morning photo shoots and also fulfills my organizational tendencies! 😜

The cute little thrifted chandelier transforms my new "dish room" into a cozy little space. My good friend Laura and I were checking out a few of our favorite thrift and consignment stores last week, when we spotted this adorable little chandelier.

It was marked $75, but when I asked the salesperson if that was the final price, she said it was actually 60% off! So, this little darling came home with me for only $30! Yay!!

This is a vintage inspired look I put together for fall. I used lots of white ironstone and hints of brown transferware and natural elements like wicker to create a soft autumn vibe.

I will be sharing lots more on the dish room soon, including a very unexpected surprise!!

the prettiest cottage flowers of all!

What’s blooming right now? Roses, viburnum and foxglove, and I’m enjoying every moment!

Every few days, I see what’s blooming in the garden and change up my mantel display.

I can’t seem to get enough of these flowers.

Hey, honey! I was out bright in early this morning while it was still cool picking some of the first spring flowers from my garden to fill this cute can

My favorite blooms are all here: a Downton Abbey Rose, Sweet Williams, Snowball Viburnum, Snapdragons, Pincushion Flowers and Scented Geraniums.

I found this lovely vintage honey label and decoupaged it to a regular tin can for a look that was inspired by something I saw on
Pinterest.

During the early part of April, just before Easter, my roses were just starting to emerge, so I supplemented my display with Lilacs and Stock from Trader Joe’s.

These gorgeous pink Roses were also from Trader Joe’s. I love how they look in this vintage calico blue pitcher.

I just adore this springtime look! For summer I plan to add a few seashells into this ceramic mix, which will be so pretty with my summer flowers like Zinnias, Sunflowers and Hydrangeas.

Have a lovely weekend!

my favorite tea cups

image from Pinterest

Over the last few weekends, my husband and I have been taking on the daunting task of cleaning out and organizing our garage. We’re both sentimental about things, so sometimes letting go of things isn’t easy.

Way in the back of one cabinet was a box of some of my favorite tea cups that my mom and I had collected for years. This box was put away over 15 years ago, and I had forgotten about it and assumed that I had donated these cups and saucers years ago.

Well, since space is at a premium here in our garage, I’ve listed some of these beauties on EBAY

These are some of my favorites.

Of course, you can’t go wrong with blue and white!

Some of the gorgeous hand-painted details are amazing!

We found this green one years ago in Beverly Hills.

This one’s also from an estate sale in Beverly Hills,

and is so pretty for fall!

As a bonus, they’re on SALE, so if you buy 2, they’re both 15% off. If you buy 3, they’re all 20% off, and if you buy 4, they’re all 25% off! (Discounts will be given at check out.) You can check out all these pretty vintage tea cups and saucers HERE.

I hope you'll check them out. I'll be back in the next few days with two new amazing fall tablescapes and a great DIY video for arranging the most beautiful florals.

fall mantel inspiration

With the first day of Autumn arriving on Monday, I’ve got to get my act together and start adding fall touches to the family room mantel, which is the focal point of that room and the kitchen.

While searching through pictures on pinterest, I’ve decided to go with a soft palette like I did last year, as you can see in the photo above.

These soft colored pumpkins are my favorites, and mesh so easily with the mostly blue and white décor in my home.

Here's some pinterest inspiration that caught my eye...

The pretty woman in this portrait is my husband’s great grandmother, Nellie, and I’m so excited that she will be making her magazine debut in about a month in the December issue of Cottages and Bungalows.

Our home was photographed last Christmas, so you’ll see this same mantel styled for the winter holiday. I believe this portrait was painted around 1905, which reminds me a little bit of the fashion in the first season of Downton Abbey.

And speaking of Downton Abbey, the movie is out today! Are any of you going to see it this weekend? I’m planning on it.
