setting a moroccan inspired table

Take a look at how Ellen Pompeo and Martyn Lawrence Bullard set a gorgeous alfresco table with the most amazing Moroccan style!

First thing to remember is to make sure the menu compliments the décor. A gorgeous tray simply includes olives, fruit, cheeses and flat bread.

For the backdrop of the table, good friends Ellen and Martyn chose a black and white geometric fabric from Martyn’s own line.

Earthenware plates are good balance with the brass accessories that showcase a little bit of bling! 

And how about those cobalt blue Moroccan tea glasses that are used as vases for the gorgeous pink roses and little orange kumquats? 

Love it!

This outdoor area is so perfect for entertaining.

I love how they set this table with drinks and appetizers out by the pool. It’s so glamorous!

In the kitchen, the food is prepared early and can be served when all the guests are seated.

It looks like a fabulous party! I love how sophisticated the table setting is, and I'm a huge fan of Moroccan food! 

My husband and I visit our local Moroccan restaurant at least once a year. Known as Marrakesh, a Costa Mesa landmark, it has recently changed owners and remodeled their whole restaurant. In fact, it's now called Casablanca, and I hear it's really good! 

I'm so ready to try it!

newport harbor home tour part six

Hi, y’all! I hope you had a really nice 4^th of July. Today I’m sharing the last house from the Newport Harbor Home Tour, and you may be surprised at how different it is from the others.

I do have to say, my favorite part of this house is the kitchen. According to a friend of mine who lives close by, this home used to be owned by a professional baker, so the layout of the kitchen makes total sense for a serious cook!

What do you think about the extensive use of white subway tile all over the walls, range hood and dining area? 

I really like it, along with all copper and brass accents throughout the space. 

This room is definitely bright and cheery. There are a few hints in the kitchen of the décor that dominates the rest of the house.  

The homeowner is a huge fan of antiques and vintage goods. I've always liked these eagle convex mirrors. I have a few in my home that I've painted white.

 

Here’s another interesting convex mirror at the front entry.

Talk about making a dramatic entrance!

In the living room, a mix of different styles and finishes come together for a slightly bohemian chinoiserie look.

There are coastal elements in here as well with the artwork and color palette.

Cozy and eclectic, for sure!

The guest room features another boho chic vibe.

And the powder room wallpaper is fun!

Isn't the mix of patterns fun?

From the street, you wouldn’t imagine the inside to be so interesting. The vibe you get here is more farmhouse than bohemian, but it works!

a fun 4th of july tablescape

What better reason than the 4th of July to go all out with the red, white and blue décor? 

I started working on this tablescape about a week ago, trying to get just the right combination of plates and colors established before I set the rest of the table.  

The inspiration for this table setting was using red and blue transferware in an interesting combination, but for an extra patriotic twist, I decided to use vintage souvenir state plates for fun!

  

Of course, they’re called “state plates” but many just depict cities. For the sake for this theme, I was lucky to have some states and cities represented that play an important part of our American history!

New York, San Francisco, Williamsburg, Chicago and Philadelphia are all included in the mix. The sixth plate from Lake George, New York is an unusual one that I added for sentimental reasons.  

I visited Lake George a few times while I was growing up in the Hudson River Valley. This plate is actually displayed on my wall the rest of the year, but I temporarily took it down for this table.

You may already know, I love a good theme, and in this instance, like in many, I incorporate several themes into one.

Since I live in Newport Beach, I thought it would be fun to add coastal twist to this patriotic table.

Placemats trimmed out with tiny seashells are the perfect contrast to the vintage plates and antique pine table.

And starfish are the PERFECT 4th of July accent and they play perfectly against the blue and white stripes of the table runner. It’s so reminiscent of the American flag, but in a fun, quirky sort of way.

Fallen red petals from the geraniums adds color!

Here’s an up close and personal look at the many layers and textures of this tablescape.

For the flowers, I was fortunate enough to have the blue and white hydrangeas in the garden. I recently planted these and a few others that were left from my photo shoot with Cottages & Bungalows.

The red ivy geraniums have been growing out by my pool for over twenty years, and proved to be the perfect color to add to the mix.

Well, now we’re ready for our small gathering on the 4th. I’m not sure what’s on the menu yet except I know we must include burgers, hot dogs and watermelon!
