lido marina village

Looking for a fun destination this weekend? Lido Marina Village is Newport Beach at its best... casual, comfortable and chic, with amazing views of Newport Harbor. Most of the restaurants offer alfresco dining on the water. You're sure to find a lovely spot to eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

And I love the hip group of shops and restaurants that recently opened up like Nobu, Serena & Lily, and Jenni Kayne. At every turn you’ll discover creative details, pretty views and stylish shops. If you’re in southern California, come on down and check it out!

zinqué cafe and lido marina village

There are so many fun new places to check out at Lido Marina Village here in Newport Beach, so this morning my friend Nancy and I stopped headed over to Zinqué for her special birthday breakfast.

Zinqué has the most amazing spot right on the little boardwalk and facing the water with views of the boats and sweeping hills of Newport, behind Pacific Coast Highway.

The view from our table this morning… you can’t get any better than this for a five minute drive on this slightly chilly December morning!

And inside, they had this cozy fire burning.

After breakfast, we headed over to one of my all-time favorite shops, Serena and Lily, which Nancy had never been to before. That store is so light and airy and the coastal-inspired décor is out of this world! I literally want one of everything!

The Lido Drug Store has been around since the 1960’s and offers a small town shopping experience with beautiful gifts and holiday décor.

They have several pretty Christmas trees set up in the three levels of their store. Look at this fun beachy tablescape they have set up.

Lido Marina Village is small but a lot of fun to visit, especially while having a little coffee or lunch on the waterfront.

saturday in lido marina village

Cheers and Happy Sunday!

My husband and I spent a fun afternoon in Lido Marina Village, catching up with some dear friends and trying out a new fabulous restaurant called Malibu Farm.

They serve a fabulous and fruity “Frosé” that looked amazing and Sherri and Nancy raved about it, but I opted for a yummy iced mocha instead, since I don’t drink alcohol.

They serve all organic and healthy foods and all that we ate was amazing, including the “grilled chocolate cake” that we all had for dessert… yes grilled… with a side of salted caramel and whipped cream!

And they even had adorable baby goats at Malibu Farm to share with us for petting and photo ops!

Not only was I really impressed by the food at Malibu Farm, but the location is amazing as well. It’s located on the water in Lido Marina Village near lots of other fun stores and restaurants.

They have a special shop and venue next door that caters to private parties. Look at the amazing set-up they had yesterday. This private birthday party was brimming in peonies, but not just ordinary peonies, extraordinarily large tree peonies.

I got to meet the amazing florist Sussana of French Buckets Florist who created all these magical floral arrangements and gave me the tip on searching for tree peonies.

Yes, these flowers are all real!

Last stop, one of my faves, as you know… Serena and Lily. We stopped in for a quick visit and I did pick up a sweet little gift to myself (it was my birthday this week, afterall) that I’ll share with you all soon!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

shortbread cookies and home tour news

We made it to another Friday, and this is THE weekend to catch up on sleep since Daylight Savings starts on Sunday. Anyhow, I wanted to update you all on the happenings going on around here…

Firstly, I wanted to share my latest obsession, these Key Lime Shamrock Cookies. I baked them up exclusively for Cottages and Bungalows, and I have to say they’re probably my family’s favorite cookies right now! To quote my husband, “They’re better than Girl Scout Cookies.”

If you’re a fan of shortbread, you’ll love the addition of fresh lime zest to the mix. And if you’ve never attempted to make shortbread, they’re among the easiest cookies ever, as they only include three basic ingredients. Recipe found here.

The Newport Harbor Home Tour is on the horizon, and we’re getting pumped up about the seven amazing homes on the tour this year. This is a peek at Ashley Clark’s home from last year’s tour.

Don’t you just love this outdoor space that’s adjacent to the pool? Sitting in those fun chair swings just make you feel like you’re on vacation!

All the home tour fun begins at Jenni Kayne at Lido Marina Village on May 16. They’re kicking off the festivities as hosts of our morning reception, catered by Malibu Farm.  Home Tour tickets are now on sale!!

While I’m at Lido Marina Village, I always make a point of stopping in at Serena & Lily, my happy place! Such a fun vibe in that store, and I always walk away with lots of inspiration for my home.

Like these amazing grouping of outdoor Summerland Pendants! They’re so bold, they just make quite a statement on their own, don’t you agree?

Lido Marina Village is the perfect place for a morning walk along the water. There are so many fun places for breakfast and lunch, and Nobu is here too, which would be lovely for dinner. I haven’t been there yet, but it sounds amazing!

Look at all the veggies growing in raised planters around this restaurant. Yes, that’s broccoli!

meet style maven Jenni Kayne

Jenni Kayne seems to effortlessly “do it all”. Some call here the modern day Martha Stewart. At age 19 she started her clothing brand and from there she's incorporated more things she loves into her lifestyle brand.

Today I’m sharing some of Jenni’s gorgeous and earthy tablescapes. I love how she uses a foraged approach to her table designs. She’ll gather herbs from the garden and combine them beautifully with fresh flowers, fruits and even vegetables.

Relaxed and ethereal is how I’d describe Jenni’s table setting style. Soft washed linens and old-fashioned blooms combine perfectly for a fresh approach to entertaining.

A gathering of herbs at each setting delights all the senses.

And I think Martha is quite a fan of Jenni’s too!

Jenni Kayne’s boutique at Lido Marina Village

You may have heard me mention Jenni Kayne’s boutique here at Lido Marina Village in previous blog posts. In fact, they even hosted the breakfast reception for the Newport Harbor Home Tour this year!

the Leeward house

Jenni Kayne Lido even set this pretty table for the home tour at the Leeward house! Check out the whole story here.

Fresh Tomato Soup
Servings: 4-5

Ingredients

2 Tbsp unrefined, cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil plus extra for drizzling
1 small onion finely diced
1/2 carrot finely diced
2 large basil leaves
1 sprig fresh thyme
3 lb1 3/8 kg fresh tomatoes coarsely chopped
3/4 tsp sea salt plus more to taste
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
optional garnishes: pesto, burrata, grated parmesan cheese, croutons

1. In a medium, heavy bottomed pot, heat 2 Tablespoons olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion, carrot, basil and thyme. Cook, stirring frequently until the vegetables are tender; 10-12 minutes.

2. Stir in the tomatoes, along with ¾ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes to break down the tomatoes and meld the flavors.

3. Remove from the heat and puree the soup in a blender or food processor, then strain through a strainer. Taste for seasoning. I added a bit more salt.

4. Serve the soup hot or warm, with desired garnishes and a drizzle of olive oil.

Jenni’s relaxed vibe extends to her fashion choices and designs. Her simple shoes and sandals are quite popular here in town.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know Jenni’s style a little bit more. She’s given me tons of inspirational ideas for setting my summer tables this year.
