thanksgiving prep: turkey plates

With less than ten days until the big day, the countdown for Thanksgiving really begins today. While I tend to set several Thanksgiving inspired tables during the month of November, I always hone in on my favorite aspects of each table and use those favorite elements for the final reveal on Thanksgiving day.

Turkey plates are one of my favorite ways to add that special vintage Thanksgiving look to a table, and I collect them all year long. If I spot them for a dollar each at flea market in March, I’m sure to jump at the chance of adding to my collection.

Starting in September or October, Home Goods carries pretty ones for only about $4-5 each. I tend to collect the salad plates which always look pretty layered on a solid white or cream colored dinner plate.

Here are a few of my favorites…

Turkey Plate by The Victorian English Pottery

Turkey Plate by 222 Fifth

His Majesty by Johnson Bros.

I don’t stop at just collecting turkey plates for Thanksgiving. Brown and white transferware is also pretty this time of year, and layers wonderfully with the little turkeys. I especially love the transferware patterns with hand-colored fruit designs.

And I go gaga for anything Wedgwood.

Harvest Time by Johnson Bros.

Beatrice by Wedgwood

Royal Staffordshire Windsong Ironstone by J. & G. Meakin

These brown and white English plates with the swirly floral design was found recently at the Long Beach Flea Market, and yes, these were only a dollar each as well.

You can see I’m playing around with a new Thanksgiving tablescape using those Royal Staffordshire plates and a pretty little thing I picked up in Geneva

an April Cornell table square that looks beautiful when place diagonally across the table, and look at how perfectly these two patterns compliment each other!

I actually found this cute tablecloth at The Little Traveler, and I love that it has adorable brown tassels on each corner. The amber glassware will add just the right touch of sparkle to this look.

9 gorgeous Thanksgiving tables

Hi friends. I’m so happy to be feeling better so I can visit with you here on the blog to share a few of my newest looks for setting a gorgeous Thanksgiving table.

Today I’m showcasing 9 favorite ways to set a Thanksgiving table, using napkins, placemats, runners and tablecloths exclusively by Pacific & Rose.

It’s so much fun to take a beautiful hand-printed tablecloth or runner and use it as the inspiration for the whole table.

What I’m sharing today are elegant, simple and not over-the-top tables that are easily replicated, and I’ll give you some behind the scenes tips for setting similar tables right in your own home.

ONE

Let’s start with a dramatic look using complementary colors. This bold and wonderful pattern is called Gayatri Peacock. When I first saw it I knew I had to pair it with orange for fall, and I think it’s a Thanksgiving look few could ever forget!

Start with the Gayatri Peacock Tablecloth and Gayatri Peacock Buti Napkins, and then use a contrasting natural-fiber placemat, simple glassware, and wicker-wrapped water glasses, if available, to create a similar look.

Now we can come in with hits of orange through the tall taper candles in vintage brass candlesticks and adorable napkin rings. Of course, autumn leaves and pumpkins are the most perfect accents for this look!

Placemats and napkin rings are from CB Lifestyle.

TWO

One of the most classic patterns in the collection is Belita. I just love all the soothing colors in this pretty pattern. For this table, I started with the table runner, and then used the matching placemats and napkins.

To showcase the lovely colors of Belita, I selected my go-to simple white farmhouse style dinner plates so the napkins would really pop at each place setting.

Late-season hydrangeas from the garden work so well with the colors of Belita, as do the soft muted colors of all the pumpkins.

THREE

The pattern of the season has got to be Umbria, and here I’ve used the Mustard colorway to accentuate the glorious sunflowers at the center of the table.

I grew dozens and dozens of sunflowers in my garden this year, and it all comes down to moments like this… displaying them at the table with table linens in similar hues.

Green mini pumpkins and eucalyptus leaves soften the look of the table and add seasonal charm to the whole room.

Umbria Mustard is so perfect for a sunny Thanksgiving table look! Here I've layered placemats on top of the tablecloth for upscale style.

FOUR

Here’s a similar look, this time using Umbria Olive. I’ve again layered placemats on the matching tablecloth, which gives each place setting a lovely singular arrangement on its own.

Dried white hydrangeas and a collection of heirloom pumpkins add that Thanksgiving boost we need at this table. And what about these adorable pumpkin plates? They match so perfectly with the Umbria Olive linens.

Classic bamboo flatware looks amazing with the Umbria Olive napkins and placemats and adds that much-needed texture that I love incorporating in every table.

FIVE

Now for a real punch of color we have Lilibet Cranberry Mint. This is one beauty of a pattern, and this latest colorway is what we’ve been after since day one!

Don’t be restricted to muted fall colors for Thanksgiving. Here’s a great example of thinking outside the box and using what you love for your very own Thanksgiving table.

White mini pumpkins make a statement at each place setting, as do these stylish woven placemats. Unseen is a big basket of white hydrangeas and dried grasses at the center of the table, which brings this whole look together.

SIX

A fancier version of number four is seen at this table setting with the Umbria Olive collection. It’s all about accessories here to amp up the autumn vibes of this pretty pattern.

Elegant turkey place card holders from Arthur Court make a statement like no other… "It’s Thanksgiving!! Bring on the turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie!"

SEVEN

Blue and white lovers of the world unite! We can make it beautiful for Thanksgiving! Do you recognize Umbria? This is Umbria Sapphire Blue, and with the addition of beautiful blue transferware plates, you can make it happen for Thanksgiving.

I’ve had these blue transferware turkey plates for years, but any blue and white plate would work for a table setting like this. Plain white china would also be lovely with Umbria Sapphire Blue.

All you need are a few seasonal accents like we’ve previously talked about. Wicker, raffia, brass, autumn leaves and pumpkins would all add autumn charm to a table like this.

EIGHT

Laura’s Garden is a unique pattern with soft salmon and green tones that are so inspiring for fall. Set an elegant Thanksgiving table with this pattern and accent with pretty matching flowers found at the supermarket!

Hints of pomegranate red make this pattern a lovely choice for the autumn holiday season. As you can see, the natural textures of the flatware and napkin rings soften the look of the table and adds so much character to this whole setting.

NINE

Turkey plates are one of my favorite collectables, and if you look closely, this plate has just a hint of green in the pattern. I paired it with two different mix-and-match green linens from Pacific & Rose.

We started with the Umbria Olive Table Runner and matched the Gayatri Green Napkins with it. I just love the freshness of this whole look!

You can take this approach too. Select your favorite dinnerware pattern for your Thanksgiving table and find a complimentary color you’d love to use for the backdrop aka tablecloth or table runner.

This approach makes table setting so much fun, and you end up this a very unique and beautiful Thanksgiving table.

“Fall colors on repeat!” Aren’t you just loving the soothing muted tones this season? 🍁🍂

My November table in the breakfast room features some of my favorites old and new…

My goal was to create a tablescape that captures the essence of fall’s natural beauty!

Can you spot the Pinecone Napkin Rings and the Cheese Board? They’re from Arthur Court and the plates, charger and wicker vase are from new little items I just acquired from Antique Farmhouse.

Just sharing a few beautiful new things for Thanksgiving from Arthur Court like these fun turkey place card holders and a beautiful metal turkey bowl that would be great for a green salad or a yummy side dish.

A little spring or two of rosemary help infuse the room with a delectable holiday fragrance and also comes in handy when cooking the turkey.

I also sprinkled in a few of my new vintage treasures found this week at a secondhand store. All my friends know how much I've always loved Thanksgiving, so I'm really looking forward to this year when I can really accessorize my table with style!

This is a Thanksgiving table I put together using only second-hand items that I either thrifted or inherited. I made a table runner out of colorful collected autumn leaves from a liquidambar tree.

Another shot of this vintage inspired table. I just love the hand-tied fringe on this antique tablecloth!

One of my favorite things to collect are brass candlesticks of all shapes and sizes. You can never have too many, and they look great when grouped "en masse" as a lovely collection.

To keep things neutral, I’m using these large white ceramic chargers as dishes. I find that they hold just the right amount of food for a large meal like Thanksgiving.

Layered on top is a variety of brown transferware salad plates that I collect all year long. Some of my favorites have a lovely Tom turkey on them.

I think it's fun to mix and match certain elements, and at this table, I do that with the salad plates, napkin rings and the vintage glassware.

Up until this year I’d never heard of Thanksgiving Poinsettias, but I’ve come to learn that it’s a thing, and I just love how they bring that indescribable autumn feeling to the table.

Tablecloth and napkins: August Table

This Thanksgiving table was ultra-simplified. I first brought out these beautiful ivory Wedgwood plates. They’re a sentimental nod to our dear family, and we don’t need much more than that.

For me it’s all about spending quality time with our loved ones, and not going so overboard with superfluous details.
