christina on the coast in newport beach

It’s already Thursday, and that means my DVR is set for the final episode of “Christina on the Coast”. As some of you know, Christina is my neighbor. She lives just around the corner from me and several of my girlfriends.

Heather is only about three houses away from her, Caran is just up the street and Amy, Brenda and I are all about a minute away, so we’ve all been intrigued the last few months about what’s going on at Christina’s house. (and did I mention that Tarek lives only a couple of blocks away?) 😉

In December, there were tons of cars on the street for a big party at Christina’s house which turned out to be her surprise wedding. Since then, we’ve all been on alert for Christina sightings.

I saw her months ago at the local health food store, and my husband actually stopped and talked to Christina and her husband while they were out for a walk.

Anyhow, every Thursday, I’m sure to check in on “Christina on the Coast” for any fun neighborhood sightings and news.

I’m quite familiar with Christina’s new house that she showcases on her show, and so are many of us here in Newport. You see it was featured on the Newport Harbor Home Tour a few years back and in several magazines.

Here’s the before and after of the kitchen. As you can see, Christina got rid of most of the open shelving, reconfigured the bar, and went with white cabinetry in most of the kitchen. To me it's a less dramatic look, but probably more efficient and has more storage.

According to last week's episode, she also closed off a door to the right of the fridge for more kitchen space. What do you think about the transformation?

Christina’s new home office

To be honest, I was a little disappointed with last week’s episode that was supposed to be the “big reveal” of her newly designed home. You see, back in December, Christina and local designer Raili Clasen (pronounced Riley) both posted the finished look of Christina’s new hip coastal-inspired home on Instagram.

Raili’s the one who actually chose the décor for Christina’s new home. She was the brainchild behind this whole project. So where was Raili (or mention of Raili) in the last episode?

ZIP! Nothing, nada, not a word. We were all led to believe that Christina did it all. And you know what? I totally get it. I’m sure the producers made the call to not mention that another designer had to be called in to actually design these spaces, but I was a little disappointed.

Christina and her husband Ant, don’t hide the fact that Raili designed the home of their dreams, as seen on Instagram.

Raili's fabric choices

Raili's a total rock star of design and is a huge supporter of the Newport Harbor Home Tour. She's had a home featured on the home tour just about every year since she debuted her own adorable little farmhouse back in 2013

Everyone loved it so much, that she began her design business shortly after that!

It seems that Christina’s been all over the press lately with her new marriage, her new show, and now her pregnancy. Here’s a little peek at her adorable baby shower that took place at the Balboa Bay Resort, or as we locals call it, The Bay Club.

Incidentally, the Bay Club is where the Newport Harbor Home Tour’s breakfast reception took place for a couple of years, so some of you may be familiar with it!

I love the flowers!

I'll always and forever love a pretty peacock chair!

One thing I really did enjoy about Christina’s show is seeing the local sights they featured. Many of them are favorite restaurants of ours, like Zinquéabove, a fun place for breakfast on the water in beautiful Lido Marina Village.

And here they are at another one of my favorite waterfront restaurants, Bluewater Grill. They have amazing seafood and chowder, and even a New England Lobster Clambake! Ramona would be thrilled! 😁

Speaking of Ramona, who's watching the Real Housewives of New York Reunion tonight? I can't wait!

I wonder if Christina will reveal her new nursery décor tonight on the show.

I guess this final episode is focusing on the “reimagination” of the pool and backyard, which is huge, by the way.

You can get a peek of it here at a backyard party Christina hosted a few weeks back and in this selfie.

You can see how true it looks compared to this rendering of how it was imagined.

Will you be watching tonight? I sure will be!

By the way, this amazing book Contemporary Cottages features Christina’s current home as it was seen on the Newport Harbor Home tour designed by Shannon Wilkins and it also features a really cool beach house designed by Raili Clasen.

In fact, this new book features several homes by some of my favorite local designers. Check it out here:

favorite new book: contemporary cottages

Contemporary Cottages has got to be the best decorating book of the year! It intertwines so many of my favorite aspects of design and takes it to the next level!

This is modern cottage décor done right, and this book includes homes decorated by some of my favorite local designers, Mindy Laven, Raili Clasen, Ashley Clark and Shannon Wilkins. Many of whom were highlighted in my ongoing "Featured Designer" blog series.

Not only that, but a couple of these homes have even been featured on the Newport Harbor Home Tour!

Many of these cottages also have a hip coastal vibe going on since several of them are located in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach.

Written by Molly Hyde English and photographed by Ryan Garvin, this book is quite a page turner with beautifully detailed descriptions and gorgeous photos! I’m not exaggerating when I say every page has something beautiful on it.

Ashley Clark's home featured on the Newport Harbor Home Tour

If you missed Ashley Clark’s own residence on the home tour last year, you’ll be able to view every corner of it now on the 14 pages that are included in this book.

A family friendly coastal cottage designed by Mindy Laven

This beach house was lovingly updated by Mindy Laven, and while it fits perfectly in the twenty-first century, it still has so much character left from its original mid-century design.

Shannon Wilkin's home that was featured on the Newport Harbor Home Tour

Shannon’s former residence has SO MUCH to talk about! This home was also featured on the Newport Harbor Home Tour a few years ago, and I’ve also spotted it in several “Living Spaces” furniture TV commercials.

It’s literally around the corner from my own house, but now it's better known as the home of Christina Antstead of “Flip or Flop” fame, and will be featured on the series finale of her new show “Christina on the Coast”.

And guess who bought the house last year?! Christina of "Flip or Flop"

Word has it that Raili Clasen, who designed the Peninsula Point home in this book, collaborated with Christina on Christina’s new home and show!

I love how this book takes an in depth look at each home.

I featured another darling cottage, the “East Meets West Cottage”, on my blog in 2017 when it was on the market. It has been redecorated and gorgeously photographed for this book by Ryan.

From kitchens to backyards, this book covers it all!

The cutest back cover ever!

All in all, this book is definitely a keeper and has now earned a permanent place on my desk for me to refer to for inspiration. If you're interested in a copy, it's available on Amazon and is on sale right now!

a pre-christmas surprise wedding

Christina ElMoussa of Flip or Flop just announced her marriage to British TV host Ant Anstead yesterday, and I couldn’t be happier!

There was a little something out of the ordinary yesterday… My husband and I were just coming home from a late lunch at The Country Club, a yummy restaurant on 17th street, and noticed like a million cars parked on Santiago, overflowing onto Tustin Avenue and beyond.

Well this explains it! They were there for Christina’s wedding… you see she recently moved in around the corner from us.

Christina also recently shared her collaboration with local interior designer Raili Classen. Raili’s spruced up Christina’s home in the most hip and cool beachy sort of way. Check out these pics from Raili and Christina’s Instagram…

You may recognize Raili from some of my previous posts or from the Newport Harbor Home Tour. She’s had a home featured on the tour almost every year!

That’s not the only Newport Harbor Home Tour connection… You see Christina’s new home was featured on the home tour in 2016 when Shannon from Prairie Home Styling completely renovated it.

So if you were on the home tour in 2016, you technically have been in Christina’s house!

News broke over the summer, that Christina had moved into to this lovely home with the oversized yard and lovely, hip styled interior, but wait…

the style wasn’t up to snuff with Christina, so an overhaul of the interior was at the top of the list.

Here’s a peek at the light and bright office, redesigned by Raili.

And here’s the before picture,
as it appeared in HGTV Magazine.

The master bedroom, as it was in 2016.

And here we are during the Newport Harbor Home Tour in 2016.

One of our earliest meetings at the home was during construction!

I love this birds eye view of the master bedroom from before Christina. I wonder how she’s styled it now!

This home has an amazing backyard that’s so perfect for parties! I can’t wait to see more wedding shots from her newly updated yard.

Here are a couple of exterior shots from our home tour files…

above, during the home tour and
below when Christina bought the home.

And by the way, you can read more on Raili here and check out a handful of beautiful homes she’s designed.

This is Raili’s Lido Isle home from the 2018 home tour. And speaking of the Newport Harbor Home Tour, mark your calendars for May 16th, the next home tour!

Our co-chairs Marena and Gina have been busy selecting homes for the tour, and the 2019 home tour promises to be another super fun day!
