a beautiful vintage pillow and more

Vintage fabrics and linens are so beautiful, but in today’s world, they aren’t always practical.

As you can see from this gorgeous pillow, little squares of vintage linen placemats, napkins and fabrics were sewn to form a modern day patchwork motif that’s worthy of any updated farmhouse interior.

My friend Brenda Kristine is a genius when it comes to creating patterns, slipcovers, and pillows for home décor. Not only that, she and I share a mutual love of vintage fabrics of all kind.

Even bits of ribbon and lace were incorporated to provide just the right texture and color palette for this design.

Country Sampler Farmhouse Style magazine

Brenda’s unique patchwork pillow was even featured in the Spring 2019 issue of Country Sampler Farmhouse Style magazine, seen here

I just love how this pillow looks on my Serena & Lily Mattituck Chair here in the family room. It adds just the right amount of color and interest to this corner near the fireplace.

Brenda and I are working on another amazing collaboration right now for Country Sampler Farmhouse Style, and I can't wait to share that with you!

And speaking of Farmhouse Style, the fall issue will be out around July 15th. I got an advanced copy, and here's a look at the cover...

This Fall issue features two more of my projects, the first being a really simple to make apple adorned wreath that's so perfect for the front door as soon as September rolls around.

I used real miniature apples and attached them to a twig wreath in the easiest way. The whole project took no more than ten minutes!

You can see my wreath in top right of this layout.

Also in this issue is my recipe for French Potato & Watercress Soup that’s included with several other yummy soup recipes from other bloggers in a story called “Heartwarming Soups & Stews”.

This is quite literally the EASIEST soup recipe that I’ve ever made, and it’s a real hit with my family. I made it one year for Thanksgiving, and it was the perfect addition to the menu.

I hope you enjoyed this preview of the Fall 2019 issue of Country Sampler Farmhouse Style.

If you haven’t picked up the Summer issue, make sure you do. It’s an amazing one and of course for me, it’s quite a memorable issue, since my tablescape is on the cover!

It’s been so fun collaborating with CS Farmhouse Style over the last couple of years. They really make it fun!

Right now I’m working on four exciting projects for their Spring 2020 issue. There's definitely another vintage sewing project included with Brenda that I know you will LOVE!

I can’t say much more now, but I’ll update you soon!

farmhouse style features

Don’t you just love this week that's snuggled between Christmas and New Year’s? It’s sort of a much-needed recovery week after all the festivities. What do you have planned for the rest of the year?

We generally stay in town during this time, with maybe an overnight getaway to the mountains or somewhere in San Diego, like La Jolla or Coronado. Nothing planned yet, but we might rally and pull something together!

I do like to cook when it gets cold out like it is now. It is 53 degrees out at the moment, but there’s a really chilly northern wind blowing!

I love how turning on the oven and baking something yummy just warms up the whole house and creates a cozy aroma that makes you just want to cuddle up by the fire and hibernate!

The upcoming weekend is the perfect time to bake some fresh blueberry muffins. This recipe for Lemon Blueberry Muffins with Streusel Topping is one I created exclusively for Farmhouse Style Magazine and is set to appear on newsstands in the next few weeks.

I can’t giveaway the recipe just yet, but I can tell you the texture of these muffins reminds me of the most delicious pound cake. You see, they’re baked with sour cream and buttermilk to extract the most decadent flavor from the blueberries and lemon zest!

The muffins are then topped with a crunchy streusel topping and baked. I combined four different recipes to create this one, because I envisioned a perfect combination of certain ingredients and of course this amazing crunch topping!

The issue comes out around January 15th. You can see a preview of it here...

Also in this issue of Farmhouse Style is a really unique idea for a pillow. My friend Brenda Kristine created this gorgeous patchwork pillow from remnants of beautiful vintage linens!

You can see all the details here on my favorite Serena & Lily Mattituck chair that sits in my family room.

Isn’t the pillow just divine? Brenda’s so creative!

When this issue comes out, you can read every detail
of how she puts these amazing patchwork pillow together!

Here’s how it appears in the magazine among other fun patchwork DIY projects.

Look for the Spring issue of Country Sampler Farmhouse Style next month for an issue filled with lots more inspiration and decorating ideas!

I’m so thankful that during the past year I’ve been able to collaborate with the most amazing magazines and editors in the design world. It’s really a dream come true!

I'm looking forward to 2019 and creating more yummy recipes, fun tablescapes and decorating ideas.

Thanks so much to YOU for traveling this creative journey with me, and remember I LOVE to hear your input and what some of your favorite themes are!

What would you like to see more of in 2019?

thursday blues

Yes, you all know I love blues…

I just can’t get away from that color,
as much as I’m liking a crisp white palette,
it seems my accessories are always

a pretty shade of blue.

So when I recently had to have
all the outdoor cushions from
my front porch recovered,

I called my talented friend Brenda Kristine.
She’s the expert in  recovering outdoor cushions
and pillows here in Newport Beach.

Together we chose “Canvas Charcoal” for the cushions,
she said it was the same color they have on the furniture
at Lido Marina Village.

Yes! I love the look they have going on!

And for a little contrast,
“Canvas Capri” for the throw pillows,
both fabrics by Sunbrella.

BTW, you can reach Brenda here:

Inside the homefront,

I’ve been working on a few Easter tablescapes,
and of course, I can’t steer away from blue!

Aren't these vintage blue and white egg cups cute?

And here’s a little peek at a new tablescape

I’ve always been such a big fan of these!

And in case you missed it,

don't forget to check out my latest

So we're over the hump and headed in the weekend...

Do you have any St. Patrick’s Day plans?

I'd love to know!
