a new Christmas photo shoot

Over the last ten days or so, I’ve been planning, gathering and creating endless lists for our one day of styling and shooting yesterday for Cottages and Bungalows magazine.

This darling little home still retains a lot of its original storybook charm that dates back to 1960, when it was built here on a quiet street in Newport Beach.

I have several behind the scenes pictures I want to share with you, so let's start with a look at the Christmasy tablescape we created yesterday.

Anne, the homeowner, loves to use classic tartan plaids during the holidays, so we started with these cheery napkins as our inspiration for her dining room tablescape

For contrast against the black wood table, we added a white matelasse runner and raffia placemats. Simple white china adds a touch of  modernity to the table, and whimsical red and white candy canes brighten up each place setting.

We used the common thread of plaids and stately deer accents in just about every room during this photoshoot. I'll share a few more pics tomorrow, as today I'm just focusing on the table setting...

Take an up-close look at the gorgeous florals created by Crystal of Studio C Florals. White ranunculus, Dusty Miller and eucalyptus all displayed beautifully in this vintage white soup tureen. These flowers really are the stars of the table!

I recently got this vintage ceramic soup tureen with lid and underplate for $4 at a thrift store! I was hesitant to buy it because of its size and storage issues, but for four bucks, I couldn’t resist!

And speaking of bucks, we used two of Anne's silver deer on the table to anchor the flower arrangement. I love how the silver-gray Dusty Miller in the florals play off of the metallic color of the deer.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a few more pictures from yesterday's photo shoot, including our cute little hot cocoa vignette and a little craft we put together.
