home: must have spring flowers

Not only is Valentine’s Day a day for celebrating love, it’s also the day to start celebrating the return of Spring flowers!

🌷Today, I’m sharing my absolute favorite go-to flowers for Spring…

This arrangement was made entirely from flowers from my garden, a are so many of the florals I’m sharing with you today.

Hydrangeas, Daisies and Roses! They're all so reliable, and I adore the fact that they’re always soooo pretty, easy to style and long lasting.

Hydrangeas on their own. A truly classic look that always looks good.   I’d say they even have a classic cottage charm that can’t be replicated!

Edible pansies are one of my favorite ways to dress up a dessert. From  store-bought cupcakes, toa homemade cake, these little violas always bring a smile!

Cottage garden flowers are a thing of wonder and joy! You can basically just pop them into a vase or pitcher, and they do their thing.

I’d love to know, what are your favorite springtime blooms?

Roses from any home garden have a unique way of swooning and swaying with grace in any container.

The one word that keeps creeping up this season is BUNNIES!

And I just found the cutest hand painted blue and white bunny rabbit pitcher on Amazon that’s so perfect for holding lots and lots of flowers! 🐇

It’s also a really nice large size, as you can see here holding 3 dozen roses from Trader Joe’s.
💐

Here’s the link for the pitcher: Blue Transferware Bunny Rabbit Pitcher.

This was our breakfast room last spring. The geraniums, foxglove, and hydrangeas have now been planted in the cottage garden in the backyard.

That’s what I love so much about using live plants for décor in the house…

I can continue to love these flowers outside for years to come, and not only that, but next year I’ll be able to snip their blooms and use them again in the house!

The pink kalanchoes in the wicker baskets have fast become one of my favorite plants!

They’ve looked like this since Easter and just keep getting better and better, so I keep them in the house!

Blue Gayatri Buti print is one of the newest prints from Pacific and Rose, and I love how this tablecloth looks with all the cottage flowers.

Blue and white is always a favorite look for me, and a little pink compliments these linens perfectly.

We had quite a rainstorm all day yesterday, especially last night, and I’m so looking forward to a little sunshine today.

I don't know about you, but I think rainy days can quickly be chased away with fun spring floral arrangements like this.

"I must have flowers, always, and always." ―Claude Monet 💐 I feel the same exact way!

These late spring florals (above) in my living room are all entirely picked from my garden.

A tablecloth made from vintage fabric plays up the colors of the flowers so perfectly. Both the pink and blue hydrangeas, along with the deep pink ranunculus are from my cottage garden.

Entering this season with this as my mantra...

"You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." --A.A. Mine

Be strong for yourself and treat yourself with kindness! The white hydrangeas from my garden bloom very early in spring and are almost evergreen all winter.

Above... a little homemade apple jelly is another real treat. Little acts of kindness are important for everyone! Start your day with a few little things that bring a smile to your face.

Even a little group of Erigeron karvinskianus, or as we call them here in California, Santa Barbara daisies are dainty little reminders of spring. It’s fun to plant them up in the most unexpected sorts of containers!

Here are a few links to some of my favorite accessories that are featured in this post with the lovely Spring flowers we’ve talked about…

i found the most beautiful flowers...

All the flowers are prepped and ready to go for today’s photo shoot at Laura’s little cottage in old-town Orange. This collection is specifically for the table.

I have in mind a garland of eucalyptus with these pretty flowers strewn down the center of the table in a manner that reminds me of a flower crown. I hope I can pull it off!

Trader Joe’s was my first stop yesterday, because what I had in mind were flowers similar to mums in size, shape and color. I brought along a photo of the dinner plate we’re using for reference.

We hit the jackpot! They had exactly what I was looking for, and I wound up getting three different  types of chrysanthemums and some absolutely lovely blush pink dahlias. For a bit different flower form, I also picked up some gorgeous peachy-pink stock.

All-in-all these flowers were super inexpensive! Those huge bouquets of mums were only four bucks, and although I'm not a huge fan of these colorful tufted flowers, these are so perfect for today!

This reminds me of a few other times I’ve used mums for my tablescapes and décor…

Chrysanthemums, roses & eucalyptus for Serena & Lily

Tiny white mums with blue hydrangeas

Lime green mums for Easter

White and green mums with chamomile flowers.

And like I said, mums are not among my favorite flowers, but I do use them often for that "certain look" I’m after, and I have to say the little white ones are quite adorable!

how to style lovely flowers in your home

I brought home these beautiful purple anemones from our photo shoot on Tuesday, and I set them in the corner of my breakfast room so they could capture the light from the window.

Aren’t these the prettiest color? And I especially love them in this vintage blue vase I recently got. It was a thrifted treasure, of course, along with the taller vase in the background. We used that one filled with blue delphinium at the photo shoot, as well.

It’s so important to match the right container to your flowers. Flowers like anemones or poppies need a vase that will highlight their delicate look.

As you can see, we used these purple beauties in a couple of different shots, one outside and one inside.

And here at my house, the bright sunshine really brings out the vibrant purple hue.

Let the flowers inspire you to pick a unique container for your arrangement. Look in your cupboards for a favorite vase, tall glass or even something like a vintage spice tin.

When arranging taller, upright flowers like these hyacinths and stock, a wider and taller vase works nicely. Also keep in mind the color of your vase and whether you use glass or something opaque.

These chartreuse colored hellebores were picked from my garden and plunked right into an eye-catching chevron patterned vase. I usually like to arrange the flowers in my hand first, and them trim the stems.

Pretty claret colored mums accented with soft peachy spray roses set the tone for this fresh and pretty fall table.

This arrangement is simply gathered together with some seeded eucalyptus and then nestled into a vintage white pitcher. So easy to pull off!

As you may have read on Thursday, using pitchers is one of my favorite ways to make flowers look beautiful. This is a beautiful look for any table.

I found this vintage galvanized bucket last year at the Tustin Flea Market and the best solution for this arrangement was to use a potted hydrangea. That way it stays fresh longer and I can then plant it in my garden.

Sunflowers are a bit tricky to style. They’re so top-heavy that a taller vase or pitcher works better for them. For this look, I use an old-fashioned spiky metal flower frog at the bottom of the pitcher to hold all the stems in place.

I started with the eucalyptus first and added the sunflowers next for this specific arrangement.

Hydrangeas are great, firstly because they’re so beautiful and secondly, you only need two or three stems to make an arrangement like this for the table. Flowers set the tone for a gorgeous tablescape.

This vintage blue and white transferware pitcher was just screaming for pretty pastel blue hydrangeas to fill it! Don't you think the colors work well together?
