pantone color of the year, Mocha Mousse

Have you heard?! The color of the year is Mocha Mousse and I couldn’t be more thrilled! Although this subdued neutral, it’s quite chic and so versatile!

To quote from the Pantone website: "For 2025, the Pantone Color Institute selects PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a warming, brown hue imbued with richness.

It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort."

Fashion already seems to be hitting its stride with this color of the year. Here are some beautiful gowns (and celebrities) featured in a recent Us Magazine article.

Which look is your favorite? I have to say I prefer the first group of Molly, Rosie, Ashley and Monica.

So dreamy, but back to reality and the thing I'm most comfortable with... tablescapes!!

One of my most favorite jobs ever…

styling tables for Pacific & Rose. This brand-new look is a slightly updated version of the classic LILIBET pattern and is a great neutral colorway known as MOCHA.

Reminiscent of the color of the year, Mocha Mousse, I know this will be one of my faves for ease of styling and giving me that pretty farmhouse cottage look that I love!

This pretty pattern is hot off the press, just arrived from India and is available at Seaside Gallery and Goods.

Also available online at Pacific & Rose. A great way to start the new year… pretty table linens and we’re good to go!

Here’s a collection of accessories in Mocha Mousse shared this week by star Magazine. My pick is the cozy Unhide Little Marshmallow furry blanket in Mocha Shar Pei.

So many cute things to choose from!! The Puma sneakers and the OPI nail polish are my picks of the week!

Even magazines in the UK are jumping on the Mocha Mousse train! This collection of goodies was shared this week by Your Home Style magazine. My pick for an easy Mocha Mousse update... candles!!

Candles, pillows and lamps are all a great way to easily add this color of the year to our homes!

My pick for bringing the color of the year into the kitchen is this gorgeous MarthaStewart Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven in the color “Ganache”. A gorgeous sister tone to Mocha Mousse!

2025 inauguration : fashion & table settings

Happy Tuesday! Please remember that this a non-political post and I just wanted to share some fashion, the table setting and menu from yesterday’s inauguration.

This first part is just a show-and-tell of some of the pretty ball gowns seen last night with just a little bit of interesting trivia. Did you know Ivanka’s gown was inspired by a very famous dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in 1954?

I really love all the fashion I’m sharing with you all today. First up, of course is the First Lady, Melania Trump. It’s simple, elegant and so stylish!! This white with black gown compliments Ivanka Trump Kushner’s gown so perfectly!

Here’s Ivanka’s Givenchy gown inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s beautiful dress she wore in the movie Sabrina. I just love it!! It’s such a classic style and a wonderful nod to Audrey and Givenchy! (More on Audrey’s iconic dress in a minute…)

Beautiful Tiffany earrings worn earlier in the day by Ivanka.

The Second Lady of the USA, Usha Vance, looked equally stunning in this sparkly gown by Reem Akra in the most beautiful blue color.

Eric Trump’s wife Lara is seen here in a lovely red gown with sister-in-law Tiffany Trump. Tiffany is expecting and looks pretty in this silver-grey gown.

First granddaughter and teenager Kai Trump, daughter of Donald Jr, wows the crowd in this Sherri Hill beaded gown.

Sabrina happens to be one of my favorite movies, so this custom Givenchy dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in the party scene is etched into my memory. You can see how pretty all the details are…

I found this colorized photo of Audrey and a couple of cute poodles on the internet and it looks like the embroidered design of this famous dress is different shades of brown, but alas, it’s not accurate.

Here are a few current pictures of the same exact dress Audrey wore in the movie. As you can see it has yellowed considerably over the last 70 years but still looks as gorgeous as ever!

It was sold at auction last year for $125,000. This dress was one of many rescued by Debbie Reynolds when the big studios like MGM sold off most of their costumes and props many years ago.

Now on to the table settings! You know how much I love a tablescape, so I wanted to give you all an up-close and personal look at how they set the tables yesterday for the 2025 inauguration.

The tablecloths are a patriotic navy-blue color, but with muted tones. This color is the perfect backdrop for the gold flatware and gold-rimmed plates used here for this official event.

Lots of pretty white and neutral colored flowers line the length of the main table. I spot mostly roses, a few anemones, and maybe a few ranunculus.

Handwritten in pretty calligraphy, the place cards here reflect some pretty famous names!!

Here’s an overview of the whole room during the inauguration luncheon yesterday. This is the Statuary Hall in the US Capital building.

And now for my favorite bit of info from yesterday’s big luncheon, the menu!! What did all these illustrious people eat for lunch!?

Wonder no more! Crab Cakes (yum), Ribeye Steak and basically a fancy apple pie a la mode! Works for me!!

princess Kate's favorite Christmas treats

Kate Middleton is known for her elegant and stylish fashion choices, especially during the festive season. For Christmas, she often opts for classic colors like reds and greens and sometimes incorporates plaid patterns into her outfits.

Tartan has a rich history and various connotations in fashion. Tartan plaid is deeply rooted in Scottish culture, often associated with clans and families.

I love how Princess Catherine wears plaid, as it can be dressed up or down, making it a versatile pattern that has stood the test of time.

During the holiday season, the royal family wears the most beautiful and stylish plaid patterns, especially in red and green to evoke a sense of warmth and festivity at Christmastime.

Now here's something I love just as mush as Kate does... Sticky toffee pudding!! It's a Christmas classic, and it’s no surprise that Kate enjoys it during the festive season. Here’s her simple recipe for you to try.

If you've never had Sticky Toffee Pudding, you're in for a real treat!

And here’s another traditional Christmas dessert…

King Charles also has a fondness for traditional Christmas desserts, including plum pudding. This rich, steamed pudding is packed with dried fruits, spices, and often a splash of brandy or rum, making it a festive favorite.

Prince William and the Princess of Wales have several cherished holiday traditions that they enjoy with their family.

They make sure to spend quality time together as a family, often baking and decorating Christmas cookies, and watching holiday movies like "Elf," which is a favorite of Prince William.

Like all of us, they also hang stockings by the fireplace and leave out very British mince pies and milk for Santa and the reindeer.

They continue the tradition of attending a Christmas church service at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, a long-standing Windsor family custom.

I love that Kate and William have started creating their own separate holiday traditions, including hosting their own holiday party with Kate's family. This allows them to have a more private and relaxed celebration away from the larger royal family.

Plaid always brings out the true spirit of the holidays, whether it's adding a plaid pillow on your sofa or brightening up an outfit with a bit of tartan.

the most beautiful spring tables

Now that Spring has arrived in all its glory, I’m excited to share several new table linens and other goodies with you that have that perfect spring look.

First of all, who can take their eyes off these beautiful new prints from Pacific & Rose

We're so happy to introduce the Lilibet print in two new colors and the Pomegranate print in a lovely blue and white pairing...

Lilibet Blue Crush

With Easter, Passover and Mother’s Day coming up, it’s a lovely idea to set a beautiful table to enjoy with friends and family. If the weather’s nice, set an alfresco table to enjoy the outdoors for dining and entertaining.

During the spring of 2020, my husband and I set up a little area of our backyard in the style of our favorite local French café. We added vintage shutter doors for ambiance and planted Boston ivy to grow up the walls.

Lilibet Cornflower

This is another one of my favorite spots to dine in the backyard. Here we have the backdrop of the shed wall that I’ve decorated with a display of blue and white transferware plates. I love how the vines intermingle with the thrifted plates.

The plates have been out here for over 4 years, and have held up perfectly.

Lilibet Cornflower

The tablecloth and napkins seen here are Lilibet Cornflower. I love how they look with the blue and white porcelain accents. A few stock flowers from the market add a dose of the garden to the table.

Pomegranate Blue with Lilibet Cornflower Napkins

Indoors in the breakfast room, I combined the Pomegranate Blue tablecloth with the Lilibet Cornflower napkins

This is my favorite combination! The mixing and matching of these linens work really well considering the colors are all so harmonious.

Lilibet Blue Crush

Here's another look for the breakfast room showcasing the Lilibet Blue Crush table runner, placemats and napkins and a big bunch of scented geraniums from the front yard.

Pomegranate Blue

That same basket of scented geraniums works well with the Pomegranate Blue runner and the backdrop of the plate wall.

Pomegranate Blue table runner, placemats and napkins

While seated, you can see our little French café area off in the distance. It feels so cozy sitting here.

Take a look at the details of the napkins and placemats with the runner. These are all entirely hand-printed in India, so each piece has a subtle, unique and very beautiful look to it.

Pomegranate Blue

Combining bamboo cutlery works really well with this type of hand-blocked textile. To highlight the plates against the fabrics, raffia placemats do the trick and offer another textural element to the table.

Lilibet Cornflower

Here’s a slightly different styling at the center of the table. The colors in this vintage Amaretti tin really harmonize well with this Lilibet print.

Lilibet Cornflower

This would be a pretty look for Mother’s Day or a bridal shower. I’ll be doing a blog post soon on how to style flowers with vintage food tins. I think you’ll really enjoy it!

Pomegranate Blue

Take a look at how easy it is to dress up your table for spring. All it takes is a beautiful tablecloth and a basket of flowers.

Kitchen Towels

In addition to the table linens, Pacific & Rose offers several other beautiful items in the Lilibet and Pomegranate prints. Gorgeous tea towels are always a bright ray of sunshine in any kitchen.

Kimono Robes and Cosmetic Bags

My favorite way to indulge in these lovely patterns is with a lightweight but luxurious cotton voile robe. Pair your favorite one with a matching cosmetic bag, and you’re all set.

Don't you think  these robes and cosmetic bags would make the most thoughtful Mother’s Day gifts? Sign me up!

Can you spot a new color here? This is Pomegranate red, and it also comes in the home goods line of table linens and accessories.

Pareos

New to Pacific & Rose are these pareos, or sarongs as I call them. Just in time for summer and those long-awaited getaways, these beauties can instantly dress you up at the pool and beach.

Pareo two ways

These are my two favorite ways to wear the pareo, but there are literally dozens of ways to style them on ourselves. They even look great as a scarf for a chilly night out on the town.

Lilibet Cornflower

Easter of course is right around the corner and these colors and patterns are just so perfect for setting a memorable table. Just add flowers and a bunny or two and you’re done!

Wishing you a lovely first week of April!
