l b d : the little black dress

The little black dress
has been a go-to item in women's closets for  decades.

With the holidays approaching,
make sure you have one in your closet.
It can be accessorized in infinite ways
and is always a classic.

Anne Hathaway dresses hers up with a gorgeous red peep-toe.

Vogue magazine said that
the LBD
would become
"a sort of uniform for all women of taste."

Katie Holmes with a nude shoe

Kate Winslet syle

Jessica Alba with a red satin shoe

Always stunningly simple Jennifer Aniston

Halle Berry -wow!

Gwyneth Paltrow

Fergie, also wearing red footwear

Blake Lively in one of my favorite LBDs

Angelina Jolie is simply chic

Angelina in St. John

One of my faves, Anne Hathaway

Emma Stone also rockin' the red shoe

Ditto with Rachel Bilson

Scarlett Johansson in black head to toe

Nicole Ritchie in an asymmetrical  LBD with leopard

3 x K = KLBD  Who did the LBD best?

Nobody does it better that Kate and Diana

Wallace Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor
was quoted as saying,
"When a little black dress is right,

there is nothing else to wear in it's place."

Innovator Coco Chanel

Rita Hayworth as the iconic "Gilda"

Look at that figure on Natalie Wood!

Marilyn Monroe in an outfit that is still so "in' today

Lauren Bacall in black satin

the captivating Elizabeth Taylor

Marilyn in a simple but plunging LBD

Grace Kelly in "Rear Window"

Jackie Kennedy in a classic shift

"Black outfits are being paired with
 a single embellishment such as
the fabulous little black dress
with a pearl detail at the neck -very Audrey Hepburn."

--Betsy Thompson

P.S. Even Elaine sported an LBD
 in this famous dance scene!

You amassed a lovely collection of LBDs on some really fabulous women. Hard to pick a favorite but I think I have to go with vintage Liz Taylor and the awesome Natalie Wood. Today's contemporaries will go down in the history books eventually! Mostly I just love that young and old women are dressing really, really well. I can't think how much fun it is to be rich, with a great figure and be able to buy fab, exceptionally-sewn clothes with sumptuous fabrics. It's wearable art.
