I am so thankful for all of the votes I received for the Circle of Moms Photography Contest.  Here's a peek at the article from their website:  When  Photography Became an Important Part of My Life I took my first photography class in high school just after I received a beautiful 35mm camera for my 15th birthday. Back then, we got to experience the excitement of watching our images develop before our very eyes in the darkroom. It was magical and rewarding. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked! Nowadays, I love sharing my beautiful world in Southern California on my blog. There's so much to see and do here! What Makes a Great Family Photo A great family photo needs some sort of spontaneity or something a bit quirky in the picture. Something clever, but subtle, otherwise the photo turns out to be stiff and boring. Find a way to personalize your image with something that is a bit different from everyone else’s family portrait, especially during the holidays when we all send out so many cards. A Tip for Taking Photos of Kids Make sure your children have eaten, are well rested, and make sure the time of day is appropriate. Don’t stress kids out. Bring fun props for young children, as they will get bored easily from just sitting around. Practice smiles in the mirror leading up to your sitting. “Chillax”, as my teenager says! Powder Room Color Change

Before

My powder room was longing for a little change.  The Shabby-Beachy look I was going for a few years ago was looking a little pale and dreary. 

Gray Marble Countertop

I got my inspiration for my new fabric choice from something that was there all along...the marble counter top.  I've always loved the antique English vanity that the previous owners had installed, and I thought why don't I go with that beautiful charcoal and white color scheme that I love.

I found the fabric I had in mind at Z-Gallery in a curtain panel they have in stock.  I simply shortened the curtain, and put in two pleats to have it mimic a roman shade.  It was a fast and easy project, and perfect for me to do in about an hour. 

The sea shell print is from our church rummage sale.
It also has the right shade of gray in it.

I had so much fabric left over from the panel that I even made a cute accent pillow for another room.  I found a charcoal gray nubby rug at Marshall's that is cozy and the perfect color for the room.  Now I'm on the hunt for some beautiful guest towels.  Wish me luck!

L.A. Vintage Style Home

Designer Kristan Cunningham mixes and matches design styles in her historic 1925 L.A. home.  She creatively modernizes this vintage home with simple and inexpensive flea-market finds.  As you take a visual tour of this home, enjoy all the gothic-style arches in the doors, windows and even the staircase.  I love the simple color pallet and rich textures.

House Beautiful's Factory Girl Apartment

Designer Heather Moore created this luxurious space for  Designer Vision: Cinema Style, and was inspired by the movie Factory Girl.  Located at 1212 5th Avenue in New York, this apartment is designed to honor Edie Sedgwick, Andy Warhol and Jed Johnson who were featured in the film.  Heather used mid-century pieces, modern items and organic textures in this chocolate brown living space .  Paint color is Ralph Lauren's Suede paint in Arrow Wood.

In the morning, the dining room walls become more orange, and less brown.  I love the sputnik chandelier. 

Artwork is influenced by Warhol's signature vivid colors.

 Veranda Bamboo tiles are reminiscent of a fluted column. 

Petite footstools with faux-lambswool tops.

Iconic photography and 1950's sconces dominate the entry.

A bubble chair and lavender and purple color scheme would probably be any 12 year old girl's dream. 

A pair of Anemone lamps add some sparkle to the master bedroom.
