springtime table inspiration

Don’t let the wintertime blues get you down. Spring is just around the corner!

If you want to get in on an early seasonal rush, try a fun, floral pattern like this. It’s the absolute newest pattern from Pacific and Rose and it’s call Lilibet Green.

Originally designed as a nod to Mardi Gras, this festive little pattern reaches beyond the streets of New Orleans and can be right at home celebrating Easter, spring or any summer festivity.

You can really see how pretty this Lilibet pattern is on the napkin, placemat and tablecloth. I just love the vining, ferny pattern, so I matched my flowers to it.

This table is brought to life with the help of a little bouquet foraged from the garden. Cosmos, statice and hellebores are currently blooming right now and just happen to match this brand-new print.

Best of all, this gorgeous print isn’t limited to the table. Look at this cozy robe and cosmetic bag! They’re so perfect for home or for packing up when you go on your next weekend getaway.

The kitchen tea towels are so luxurious and just like these other items, make great gifts, perhaps for a birthday or Mother’s Day.

Gather up your Mardi Gras beads and get yourself a King Cake, because Mardi Gras is on March 1st. Just because this event has been celebrated for centuries doesn’t mean you have to be left out this year…

Set your table up nice and pretty for this celebration which also heralds the impending arrival of springtime! You’ll be surprised at how it will cheer up the whole room, and boost your mood as well.

joyeux mardi gras

Happy Fat Tuesday!

In other words,

You may have seen the little table
I set up for this occasion.

It all started with this mood board that

I put together with elements for my
Mardi Gras tablescape.

I did switch out a few things,
like the green napkins,
but all-in-all

the mood board turned out to be a helpful
way to harness my imagination!

Any table can easily be set for Mardi Gras
just by using tableware in the traditional colors of

gold, violet and green.

Simple white dishes would look amazing with
slight hints of color brought in with accessories
like flowers, napkins and candles.

If you’re in a festive mood tonight,
why not treat yourself to a

Disneyland is a great place to visit
for mardi gras!
They definitely know how to celebrate there!

Aren’t these perfect for Mardi Gras?🙋

p.s. can I ask you a big favor? I’d love to hear from you and what you’d like to see more of on the blog. There’s a simple poll to take at the bottom of this page. I’d love it if you’d let me know your preferences. It’ll literally only take a second and it means so much, thanks!

a vintage inspired mardi gras table

This year Lent starts on Valentine’s day,
so for those of us who follow this observance,

we might have a double celebration on Mardi Gras….

and that may mean indulging in
Valentine’s day chocolates a day early!!

In any event,

my inspiration this year was for an
old New Orleans- inspired Mardi Gras tablescape.

When I think of New Orleans,
fabulous architecture and antiques come to mind.

I wanted a little bit of that history on my table,
so I chose a more sophisticated approach to my table décor.

Of course, we must have purple, gold and green,
the obvious colors of Mardi Gras,
but I wanted to use them in a more toned down manner.

For starters, we need pretty masks and party beads,
so I kept these accessories limited to gold tones.

I brought out some of my favorite
purple and white transferware

and

beautiful amethyst glass stemware.

A hint of green is brought in with a eucalyptus branch runner
down the center of the table which softens the look of the bold brass candlesticks.

I love the Spanish moss tucked around the roses and candles.
It adds to the whole spooky vibe that
is sooo New Orleans.

White roses were the obvious choice
to bring in some of that elegant old-world beauty of
New Orleans.

Simple gold flatware keeps the table a little modern and has great juxtaposition
with the textured linen tablecloth that reminds me of

old tattered

anitque chairs.

I love this new white and gold vase…

it’s so versatile for any type of flower and tablescape.

Along the bank of cabinets, behind the table,
the rest of my brass candlesticks are
adorned with more gold beads.

And when the lights go down…

The magic starts to happen!

Flickering candlelight

is the best ingredient

for any dinner party!

monday musings

It’s Monday, so I think we need a
little color, brightness and fun today to liven up
what could wind up being a bit of a dreary day.

Let’s accentuate the positive…

and I’d love to hear your feedback…

If you had to set up a romantic little

what would your go-to items be?

Do you celebrate Mardi Gras aka
Fat Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday?

Disneyland is one of the few places I know of
here in southern California that
offers a fun Mardi Gras celebration,
New Orleans style!

If you observe Lent,
then you may have reason
to celebrate on February 13th.

It's a good excuse to indulge in a little
Valentine's Day chocolate on the 13th,
since Lent starts on February 14th this year.

There are several things that can instantly put a smile on my face, and sunflowers are one of them. They're like huge smiley face, aren't they?

My brother-in-law recently gave me this large painting of sunflowers that he bought in Laguna Beach. I just love all the cheery colors, so I have it here in the family room, right near my desk, where I can look at it throughout the day.

It just radiates sunshine and happy thoughts!
