happy new year!

As we close out the year 2019, I have to say again how truly grateful I am to have friends like you. I really appreciate the time you take to check in with me on this blog! 

For me 2019 has been a pretty good year. The good thing is that I kept busy on several new projects and even started styling more for magazines, which is a real treat! 

It was so fun meeting my styling idol Heather Bullard in October. She had some amazing advise to share with all of us at the Day of Design. I also reconnected with Karen Reineke who's a talented stylist for Better Homes & Gardens. They both have amazing style and their work is so inspiring to me.

It's a learning process for sure, and I'm still trying to hone my own personal style. After styling my own home in June for Cottages & Bungalows, we also collaborated on shooting Laura’s home in August, Angi & Pete’s Balboa Cottage in September and my new friend Anne’s home just a couple of weeks ago. 

I’ve also been contributing to Country Sampler Farmhouse Style for just about every season, and I’m really excited about the Spring 2020 issue that will be out soon. I have four projects in that one that include a unique pillow I created, two DIY Easter projects and a yummy rhubarb recipe that I can’t wait for you to try! 

In fact, I'm currently working on two more recipes for the Autumn 2020 issue of C.S. Farmhouse Style. You know how I love to cook, and photographing food can be tricky, but it's a fun challenge, for sure!

Over on instagram, I’ve been trying to keep you posted with the latest goings on, details about the Newport Harbor Home Tour, and I even share an occasional vacation pic. 

It was also really fun joining a few different blogging groups for our group shares throughout the year. I’ve made so many new friends that have amazing blogs and instagram accounts! Their creativity really inspires me too!

I shared this same inspirational quote back in 2016, and I have to say, it’s still resonates with me and gives me encouragement in facing the new year ahead. I hope you enjoy it too!

a beautiful new year's celebration

Elegant white roses and hydrangeas, glittery stars and
brass candlesticks are simple elements that work perfectly with the tablescape.

Do you get sentimental about the year ending? Somehow, the passing of another year seems a little sad, but for me it’s ultimately overshadowed by the thoughts of what the new year will bring.

To celebrate the incoming new year, I love to set up a lovely table that celebrates the passing of time.

Time will definitely be on your side with a table set with festive clocks, glittery details and mixed metals. That’s what it’s all about when decorating for New Year’s Eve!

Everyone will want to ring in the New Year surrounded by opulence, and an upscale end-of-the-year dinner party like this is so easy to put together when you start with an amazing tablescape like this.

Setting a table with a mix of our favorite metals,
includes gold rimmed champagne glasses, silver chargers, copper lanterns
and a glittery rose gold table runner.
These fun clock plates are a cinch to make!

Clear glass dinner plates, silver chargers and a selection of pretty paper clock faces are all you need to create this festive party idea.

Simply layer the paper clock cutouts between glass plates and silver chargers.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match plates, glasses and other tableware. 

It only adds to the interest of the tablescape.

A striking bouquet of white roses and hydrangeas prove to be the perfect focal point for our dinner guests, while the cascade of glittery stars surrounding the table reminds us of 

the magic of midnight, 

when the ball drops, 

the fireworks go off 

and kisses are exchanged!

It’s all in the details, so finish of the year entertaining in style and

 make sure to have plenty of “midnight kisses” on hand for everyone

 to indulge in some decadent chocolate treats.

All that glitters is not gold. Don’t stop at one metallic element for your table. For this tablescape, I’ve selected a mix of gold, silver, copper and rose gold accessories.

This combination of metals creates that opulent look everyone loves on December 31st!

Santa has arrived at the table

The red and white table I shared yesterday was styled in my breakfast room, but it all got transferred to my bigger table in the dining room where I was able to add four more place settings. 

So that leaves my breakfast room free for a fun Christmas morning set up that will  hopefully put a smile on everyone’s faces. This pastel and copper table gets its final fantasy addition when Santa visits the table! 

The spirit of Santa is ready to bring joy to all (I hope) gathered around this table! 

We usually make a nice potato and vegetable frittata for breakfast with a few homemade waffles to sweeten things up. Of course, fresh berries are also a great addition to the meal. The gals will have cappuccinos and the guys will have tea and juice.  

After breakfast, we'll move into the living room to open presents. Luckily, we’ve downsized our Christmas lists this year now that the kids are older, and it’ll be fun just to enjoy time gathered together watching movies and playing games by the fire.

Tonight, I’m hoping we can all play a new game I just got called “Utter Nonsense, Family Edition”. It sounds hilarious! It sure to be really funny and is similar to Apples to Apples except you have to read silly clues with different accents. For example, every would have to read their clue in a baby voice or pirate talk. 

I’ll let you know how it goes... can’t wait to play! 😉
