my home in Cottages and Bungalows

Have you picked up the latest issue of Cottages & Bungalows magazine? It’s an extra special issue for me because my home is featured in this amazing holiday issue. Pinch me!

You may remember that I shared a few behind the scenes photos last December of the photo shoot, and now I’m sharing just a few pages of the magazine with you, along with some more of my own pics from that day.

Here’s my breakfast room all decked out in green in anticipation of a yummy Christmas morning brunch. I was going for a winter wonderland look here, as if we were to wake up to have breakfast in the middle of a snowy woodland.

In this overhead shot of the table, you can see how the snow is scattered in the center of the table as part of the winter wonderland look. I used real evergreen cuttings with the faux snow and accented the look with a few spiky silver ornaments and glittery gold votives. The trio of tall brass  Amana candlesticks are from Serena & Lily.

I love using white farmhouse style dinner plates as a frame to highlight salad plates with interesting designs. I picked up these green and white transferware plates for a quarter each! They were actually marked at $1, but when I got to the register, they told me they were 75% off.

Anyways, with the addition of green napkins from World Market and vintage green glasses, the table fits in perfectly with the backdrop of pine trees.

Right next to the breakfast room is the dining room. The main focus of this table was my husband’s grandmothers antique Indian Tree china. I wanted to update the look of the plates by using fresh gingham napkins from Serena & Lily.

Looking at this now, I think the flowers at the center of the table are too much. I would have loved to see a more simplistic look with just the runner of fresh cut greenery and candles.

By the way, this silver light fixture is now longer here. I sold it on Craig's List and updated it with a coastal inspired one from World Market. You can see it here.

The Christmas tree was decorated with tiny cottages, birds and globe ornaments... a nod to the magazine, Cottages & Bungalows

Here’s a nice shot of the dining room that's featured in the magazine (above), and one that I took with my own camera (below). I do love those yellow lamps so much! The theme of last December was "Celebrating with an Heirloom Christmas".

We have several very dear family pieces of furniture, china, and portraits that we just love to highlight during this special time of the year.

I love this shot of the tree looking in towards the dining room.

Probably my favorite picture in the magazine spread is this one of our family room fire place with great grandmother Nellie watching over us. After moving the chair to the other side of the mantel, we managed to get the perfect shot!

The set of copper lanterns sits on the mantle year-round because I love the gentle glow they cast next to the portrait.

Up on a ladder, Bret gets one of the last shots of the day, just as the sun is setting. Inside this December issue, you’ll get to see the whole front porch and more. There are ten pages of my home featured, if you can believe that!

And you won’t want to miss the photo of my garden shed all lit up by candlelight. Now that I've shared this Christmas story, I'm back to savoring the last days of October and celebrating Halloween!

ciao! fabiana
