chinoiserie in the powder room

Using the powder room at Marion's

can be quite a visual adventure, lol!

It contains a fun collection of chinoiserie

and other sentimental treasures.

The fleur de lys sconces are from

her childhood home in Cologne, Germany.

Marion’s husband proposed to her
in the living room
of her parents' home
where these sconces originally hung.

 The adventure continues,

when Marion and I go antiquing next week!

fruits of the garden

Summer in my garden means lots of harvesting.

Easy harvesting!

It's basically just apple and grape picking.
This variety of "Anna" apple grows well here in
Newport Beach and produces in June and July.

Most of these Flame seedless grapes
will be ripe in July and August.

And we get soooo many!

We love to share these with our
friends and neighbors.

They’re just a great variety of
table grape to munch on!

We also have quite a few citrus trees.

This one’s a Valencia orange.

We also have lemons, limes, tangerines,
and kumquats and they mostly produce

in the winter months.

Thanks for stopping by!

shades of green in this outdoor space

Local Laguna Beach interior designer, Sheldon Harte
designed his own cozy backyard in
beautiful shades of green
both in the decor and in the plants.

The small size of the yard was a challenge,
but unifying the space with tranquil green
was just the right choice to connect with
elements found naturally outdoors.

Lush plant material
and a natural color palette
create a relaxed vibe.

Chic hunter green striped chaises
are perfect for lounging around the pool,
and look like they belong at a posh hotel.

And this home was just
featured in the summer edition of
Deck, Patio & Outdoor Living.

nancy's fabulous she shed

Nancy's gorgeous "garden house" was built over two weekends by her skilled nephew, and reminds me of an heirloom quilt because it was lovingly put together with scrap materials and amazing vintage finds. French doors and windows were left over from the remodel of the main house, as were the short lengths of wood flooring and exterior shingles.

The antique table that sits under the beautifully arched window was given to Nancy by a friend's grandmother. Pretty green trim accents the shed and matches the adirondack chairs of the lower-level garden.

A Pennsylvania bluestone path leads to
the lower level that
overlooks the Indian Springs.

A fountain nestled under the plum tree
provides soothing sounds
during the summer months.

The garden house is perfect for creating
beautiful floral arrangements
straight from the garden.

This antique table fits perfectly inside the shed
and provides a great work space.

The opposite wall
contains supplies and
other gardening needs.

Shelves hold collections
of vintage pottery, vases and baskets

The one splurge item is this Cape Cod Lantern
from West Chatham, Massachusetts.

One of my favorite things about this room
are the views of Nancy's gorgeous garden.
